Prògram 33

Posted by liam on September 24th, 2008

Fàilte, a chàirdean, gu Gaelcast. Welcome, friends, to Gaelcast.

Tha sinn air ais as dèidh ùine ro-fhada gu lèir le sreath de phrògramman ùra. Tòisichidh sinn le còmhradh eadar Micheal agus Liam mu dheidhinn — dè eile — phoileataigs. Bruidhnidh sinn greiseag mu na taghaidhean agus na tagraichean anns na Stàitean Aonaichte. Ciamar a tha cùisean a’ dol airson nan tagraichean? Dè ur beachd fhèin?

We’re back after too long a time altogether with a series of new programs. We’ll begin with a conversation between Michael and Liam about — what else — politics. We’ll speak a bit about the elections and the candidates in the United States. Are how things going for the candidates? What’s your own opinion?

As dèidh sin, thèid sinn gu taigh a’ cheud chinn-suidhe, George Washington, còmhla ri Liam agus Pòl MacCalluim à Uibhist a Deas. Bha Pòl ann an Washington airson Mòd Naiseanta Aimearagaidh, far an robh e na bhritheamh, agus chuir e latha seachad còmhla ri Liam ann an Alexandria agus Mount Vernon, Virginia. Dè na smuaintean a bh’aige?

After that, we’ll go to the home of our first president, George Washington, along with Liam and Paul McCallum of South Uist. Paul was in Washington for the U.S. National Mòd, where he was the adjudicator, and he spent a day with Liam in Alexandria and Mount Vernon, Virginia. What were his thoughts?

Èistibh agus ionnsachaidh sibh. Cluinnidh sinn òran bhuaithe, cuideachd.

Listen and learn. We’ll hear a song from him, as well.

A bharrachd air sin, thig sinn air ais le prògram eile a’ tighinn a-mach a dh’aithghearr. Anns an ath-phrògram, bruidhnidh sinn ri Micheal Bochanan, neachd-naidheachd aig a’ BhBC ann an Lunnain, mu na taghaidhean.

In addition, we’ll be back with a new program shortly. In the next program, we’ll speak with Michael Buchanan, a reporter with the BBC in London, about the elections.

Faodaidh sibh Gaelcast 33 fhaighinn an seo. (Click here to download our 33rd program.)

Gaelcast TV: Gillebride aig Latha na Gàidhlig

Posted by liam on July 9th, 2008

Chaidh sinn gu Latha na Gàidhlig ann an Alexandria, Va., faisg air Washington agus thachair sinn ri Gillebride Mac ‘Ille Mhaoil, an t-seinneadar à Gearraidh Bhailteas ann an Uibhist a Deas. Thàinig Gillebride a-null air turas mu thimcheall na Stàitean – bha e ann an Ohio far an deach e gu Mòd nan Lochan Mòra, mu thimcheall Washington agus ann an Carolina a Tuath, far an do theagasg e Gàidhlig agus òrain Gàidhlig aig seachdain tumaidh leis a’ Chomann Gàidhealach Ameireaganach.

We went to a Gaelic Day in Alexandria, Va., close to Washington and met with Gillebride MacMillan, the singer from Gearraidh Bhailteas in South Uist. Gillebride came over on a tour about the States – he was in Ohio where he went to the Great Lakes Mòd, around Washington and in North Carolina, where he taught Gaelic and Gaelic song at an immersion week with the American Gaelic Society.

Bha sinn cho toilichte gun robh e ann agus gun d’fhuair sinn cothrom a bhith bruidhinn ris greiseag, mar a chi sibh anns an bhidio ghoirid seo. Thuirt Gillebride beagan mu dheidhinn a thuras dhuinn agus ghabh e òran fìor-bhòidheach: “A Chailin Mheall Thu Mi.” Gabhaibh tlachd às! Tha sinn an dòchas gun cuir sinn tuilleadh a-mach a dh’aithghearr.

We were delighted he was there and we got the chance to speak with him a bit, as you will see in this short video. Gillebride told us a little bit about his journey and sang a very beautiful song: “A Chailin Mheall Thu Mi” (“Girl, You Have Deceived Me.”). Enjoy it! We hope to put out more before too long.

Dh’fhoillsich Gillebride a’ chiad chlàr, “Thogainn Ort Fonn,” anns an Dùbhlachd 2006. Tha tuilleadh fiosrachaidh ma dheidhinn ri fhaotainn aig http://www.myspace.com/gillebridemacmillan.

Gillebride produced his first record, “Thogainn Ort Fonn,” in December 2006. More information about him is available at the Web site above.

Beag is Beag! 4

Faodaidh sibh an ceathramh Beag is Beag! fhaighinn an seo. (Click here to download the fourth Beag is Beag!)

An turas seo, tha cùis chonnspaideach againn dhuibh, agus thàinig seo bho na naidheachdan o chionn ghoirid – tha e coltach gu bheil coimhearsnachdan beaga air feadh nan Stàitean air fàs car searbh leis na th’ann de dhaoine a tha a’ fuireach ann aig nach eil cead a bhith anns na Stàitean – canaidh sinne “illegal aliens” riù. Tha iad a’ tighinn bho Chanada agus bho Mhexico, ach tha a’ mhor-chuid, a-rèir choltais, a’ tighinn bho’n taobh a deas.

Tha daoine an seo a’ cumail a-mach gu bheil na “h-illegals” a’ toirt sochairean agus airgead air falbh bho na coimhearsnachdan far a bheil iad, agus gu bheil iad a’ tarraing euchoir agus buaradh. Air sàilleamh seo, tha iad, mar a rinn Siorrachd Prince William ann an Virginia, a’ toiseachadh air laghan a chur ann gus sochairean a dhiùltadh dha na daoine a tha fuireach ann gu mi-laghail. Chan fhaigh duine ann am Manassas tòrr rudan gun a bhith a’ dearbhadh gun d’rugadh iad an seo.

Tha seo a’ sealltainn cho dionach ‘s a tha muinntir nan Stàitean a thaobh a’ chuspair a tha seo, agus aig an aon àm, tha daoine anns na coimhearsnachdan “Latino” a’ gluasad cuideachd, a’ caismeachd an aghaidh polasaidhean mar seo airson ‘s gu bheil iad a’ sealltainn gràin-cinnidh dhaibh.

Cuspair doirbh, domhainn, agus tha sinn an dòchas gun tog e deasbad an seo agus nur measg fhìn.

We discuss a controversial topic in our fourth Beag is Beag!: Should local communities – towns, counties and states – within the United States be allowed to refuse public services to illegal aliens? Prince William County and the City of Manassas in Virginia are two jurisdictions trying this route to stem what they claim is a high tide of illegal immigrants sapping taxpayer money from other projects and uses. There’s debate, however, over whether the federal government has jurisdiction over immigration policy. Also, many Latino groups claim racism is involved in some of the restrictions.

It’s a deep subject, and one with worldwide implications, as migration from poorer regions to wealthier ones continues around the globe. What’s your opinion? Write to us and let us know.

Mòd 2: Mac-Talla & Friends

Posted by liam on September 14th, 2007

Seo dhuibh còmhlan ciùil eile a’ seinn aig a’ Mhòd ann an Ligonier. Mac-Talla & Friends a th’ annta, agus b’e Seònag NicUilleam Weiss gan stiùireadh. Sheinn na mnathan “Dh’èirich Mi Moch Madainn Chèitean” leotha fhèin, agus as deaghaidh sin, “Mo Rùn, Mo Nighean Donn Bhòidheach” còmhla ri Liam. Fhuair iad an dàrna àite anns an fharpais, as deaghaidh “Seinneadaran Gàidhlig nan Lochan Mòra.”

Here’s another singing group performing at the Mòd in Ligonier. They are Mac-Talla & Friends and Joan McWilliams Weiss is directing them. The women sang “Dh’èirich Mi Moch Madainn Chèitean” themselves, and after that, “Mo Rùn, Mo Nighean Donn Bhòidheach” with Liam. They placed second in the competition, after “The Great Lakes Gaelic Singers.”

Fàilte dhan a’ Mhòd … agus Gaelcast TV

Posted by liam on September 12th, 2007

Chaidh Gaelcast chun a’ Mhòid Naiseanta Aimearagaidh ann an Ligonier, Pennsylvania, o chionn ghoirid agus fhuair sinn àr ceud bhideo – agus creid gun tig tuilleadh dhiubh a-mach a dh’aithghearr.

Seo agaibh “Seinneadaran Gàidhlig nan Lochan Mòra” à Ohio aig a’ bhòrd luaidh. Bhuannaich iad an co-fharpais — chan iongnadh sin, bha iad cho beòthail!

Gaelcast went to the U.S. National Mòd in Ligonier, Pennslyvania, recently and got our first video – and more will be coming soon. Here’s the “Great Lakes Gaelic Singers” from Ohio at the waulking table. They won the competition — no surprise, they were so lively!

Beag is Beag! 3

Faodaidh sibh an treas Beag is Beag! fhaighinn an seo. (Click here to download the third Beag is Beag!)

Tha sinn air n-ais le pìos goirid mu dheidhinn film gu math goirid a thàinig a-mach air DVD mu dheireadh, “Faire Chaluim Mhic Leòid,” film ann an Gàidhlig bho Eilean Cheap Breatainn.

wcm1.jpg

Cha mhair “Faire Chaluim” ach sia mionaidean, ach chuir iad tuilleadh anns na sia mionaidean na gheibh thu ann an iomadh film fada nas fhaide.

Tha “Faire Chaluim” suidhichte ann an Ceap Breatainn. An toiseach, thachair sinn ri Calum nuair a bha e na dhuine òg, aig innse sgeulachdan mu dheidhinn Baran Mòr na Gaoithe dhan chloinn aige. Ach thionndaidh an t-suidheachadh ann an dìog gus an latha an-diugh. Tha Calum a-nist na bhodach (mar a tha e ‘san dealbh seo). Tha a chlann sgapte, mar a thuirt e, “fad is farsaing,” agus tha e na ònar.

Oidhche dhorcha, stormeil a th’ann agus tha Calum a’ gearan leis a’ Bharan.

“Dè am feum a th’ann an sgeul,” a tha e ga fhoighneachd, “gun luchd-èisteachd?”

Geallaidh Calum gun stad e ’g innse sgeulachdan — “tha mi deis le innse sgeulachdan,” tha e ag ràdh — agus an uair a chanas e sin, stad a chridhe — diùltaidh a chridhe a bhualadh — agus thuit e marbh air an ùrlar.

Agus sin toiseach an fhilm!

Thig a chlann air ais gu Ceap Breatainn agus an t-seann dachaidh, agus chì sinn Seumas, Uilleam agus Mòrag a’ tighinn dhachaidh airson fàire a’ bhodaich bhochd. Ach chuir iad car anns an sgeul nach innis sinn dhuibh …

Dè am feum a th’ann an sgeulachd? ’S dòcha gu bheil feum ann fhathast, à rèir coltais.

’S math an obair a rinn iad nuair a chuir iad an DVD seo ann an cruth. Tha fo-thiotalan ann anns a’ Bheurla agus ann an Gàidhlig cuideachd. Tha tuilleadh do dh’fhiosrachaidh ann mu dheidhinn an fhilm, Gàidhlig, cultar agus ceòl Gàidhealach ann an Ceap Breatainn. Chuir iad na storyboards ann, agus bha iad gu math inntinneach.

Ma’s toigh leibh “Faire Chaluim Mhic Leòid” fhaicinn agus a cheannach, rachaibh gu www.gaelicbooks.com, an làrach-lìn aig Sìol Enterprises ann an Alba Nuaidh. Tha an DVD ri reic an sin airson seachd deug dollar Aimearaigeanach, mu fhichead dollar Canaideanach. Tha fiosrachadh eile mu dheidhinn an fhilm ri fhaotainn aig www.wakeofcalummacleod.ca.

Thig film eile ann an Gàidhlig a-mach a dh’aithghearr ann an Alba – Seachd. Bu choir dhuibh sùil a thoir air seo:
