Dh’ fhosgail a’ cheud àrd-sgoil làn-Ghàidhlig ann an Alba — Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu — an seachdain seo, ceum glè-chudthromach airson na Gàidhlig anns an àm ri teachd.

Gheibh clann eadar trì bliadhna dh’aois agus ochd bliadhna deug teagasg anns an sgoil seo, far a bheil craoileagan, bun-sgoil agus àrd-sgoil air an cuir fon aon mhullach.

Bidh 320 oileanach anns an sgoil an fhoghar seo, ach fàsaidh an àireamh ann an ùine ghoirid agus is dòcha gum biodh tuilleadh na 500 oileanach ann am bliadhna neo dhà.

Chosg an sgoil £4 millean (U.S. $7.5 millean). Mus do dh’fhosgail an sgoil ùr, bha bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig ann an Glaschu agus ionad Gàidhlig ann an àrd-sgoil eile anns an sgìre.

Cha robh sgoil mar seo ann roimhe riamh ann an Alba, agus thog a fosgladh dòchas a-measg luchd na Gàidhlig gum faicear àrd sgoiltean eile làn-Ghàidhlig, gu h-àraid anns na bailtean mòra mar Dùn Èideann agus Inbhirnis.

Tha Fòram Gàidhlig Inbhir Nis a’ sireadh beachdan phàrantan air co-dhiù¹ bu chòir do dh’ àrd-sgoil Ghàidhlig a bhith air a stèidheachadh ann an sgìre Inbhir Nis. Dh’fhosgail bun-sgoil ùr sa bhaile am bliadhna seo.

The first Gaelic-medium secondary school in Scotland, the Glasgow Gaelic School, opened this week – a very important step for the future of Scottish Gaelic.

The school will educate children between the ages of three and 18, combining a preschool, primary school and secondary school under one roof.

Three hundred and twenty students will enter the school this fall, though the number of pupils is expected to climb to 500.

The opening of the £4 million school raises hopes that other all-Gaelic secondary schools may soon open elsewhere in Scotland, especially in cities such as Edinburgh and Inverness.

Fòram Gàidhlig Inbhir Nis, the Inverness Gaelic Forum, is seeking parents’ opinions as to whether a Gaelic-medium secondary school should be opened in the Inverness area. A Gaelic primary school opened there this year.
