Anns a’ phrògram seo, thèid Liam dhan fhèis Cheilteach, am “Potomac Celtic Festival” ann an Leesburg, Virginia, àite anns an tuath beagan air falbh bho Washington. Thachair Liam le mòran daoine, chuala Liam mòran cheòl agus dh’ith Liam mòran bhriosgaidean agus dh’òl e botal as dèidh botal do dh’uisge fuar, glan air latha fuathasach teth!

In this program, Liam goes to a Celtic Festival, “The Potomac Celtic Festival,” in Leesburg, Virginia, a place in the country outside Washington. Liam met with many people, heard lots of music and ate many Welsh cookies and drank bottle after bottle of clear, cold water on a terribly hot day!

Ach dè bha Ceilteach mu dheidhinn na fèise? Carson a thug iad “Ceilteach” air agus dè bha sin a’ ciallachadh dhaibh? Sin na bha air chùl aigne Liam nuair a bha e bruidhinn ri daoine aig an fhèis.

But what was “Celtic” about the festival? Why did they call it “Celtic” and what does that mean to them? That was at the back of Liam’s mind as he talked with people at the festival.

Bha tuilleadh na Albannaich agus Èireannaich (agus Aimearaganaich) aig an fhèis seo — bha còmhlan ann a’ riochdachadh gach dùthaich Ceilteach agus dùthchannan agus ceàrnaidhean eile le ceangal ris na Ceiltich agus an cànannan: Asturias agus Galicia san Spàinn mar eisimpleir.

There were more than Scots and Irish (and Americans) at this festival — there were groups representing every Celtic nation and some other regions connected with the Celts and their languages: Asturias and Galicia in Spain, for example.

Cluinnidh sinn agallamhan le Joan Weiss, neach-stiùiridh an còmhlan-ciùil Gàidhealach Mac-Talla à Maryland; Bill Reese le Moch Pryderi, còmhlan-ciùil Cuimreach à Virginia; Beth Benedetto, neach-ionnsachaidh agus tidsear Gàidhlig Èirinneach; Albert Jenkin bhon Chomann Eachdraidheil Còrnach-Aimearaganach; Kevin Deasy agus Kate MacGregor; agus Dave Browne, ceannard agus prìomh-frighigeir aig an “Infamous Welsh Cookie Co.”

We’ll hear interviews with Joan Weiss, director of the Scottish Gaelic singing group Mac-Talla from Maryland; Bill Reese of Moch Pryderi, a Welsh band from Virginia; Beth Benedetto, an Irish learner and teacher; Albert Jenkin from the Cornish American Historical Society; Kevin Deasy and Kate MacGregor; and Dave Browne, president and chief fryer of the “Infamous Welsh Cookie Co.”

Cluinnidh sinn ceòl cuideachd, le taing do Mhoch Pryderi (agus cluinnidh sinn beagan mu dheidhinn Pryderi agus a mhucan!).

We’ll hear music too, with thanks to Moch Pryderi (and we’ll hear a little bit about Pryderi and his pigs!)
